Christmas time is here....

Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year!

Not because of the shopping, receiving gifts, or eating the delicious food. Christmas is much more than that to me. It's about spending time with those you love and care about and making wonderful memories to pass along to future generations, such as different crafts to make. Making memories like creating crafts together or for someone is the best memory of all! A lot of folks are struggling to make money to make ends meet, let alone trying to find a gift for that one special person for Christmas. This past Thursday, I found a solution for many if not all of you at a craft class at my local library. Make your loved one a gift on your own!! Painting a Christmas scene on an ornament is so much fun and very easy to make if you like to be creative! When I went into the craft class I felt welcomed right away by Danette the teacher. She had my friend and I pick out a Christmas ornament, a packet of paint brushes, a bowl of water, paper towels, and last but not least a bottle of white paint. After everyone got their stuff and sat down Danette went on to explain how we would paint a Christmas scene on to the Christmas ornament. She then had us come up in sections and she taught us her techniques of how she paints a horizon line, different trees and snow. Danette even repeated her demonstration for beginners who didn't understand the first time. First, she had us practice on paper, then finally do it on the ornament. I painted my horizon line, a few trees, a Christmas tree, and a cabin. Danette made it so easy for myself to learn how to paint the scene. She was very warm and patient with myself and the other students. Before Thursday I would have never imagined myself painting a scene on a Christmas ornament. I was proud of myself! For those of you who are artists of any kind, or if you are looking for something to do for fun or to make as a gift for a loved one, I suggest you go to your local library and ask them if they offer craft classes. They are usually offered to you for free, so why not take the opportunity and learn something new to do at home on your own? I'm glad I did! It's the most rewarding thing to be able to do, plus painting and crafts are therapeutic too!
